Day 7, July 14

"Never under heaven hath there been a better place for mankind to fluorish" - John Smith on the Chesapeake Bay, 1608.

On the 7th day, we got on the Sigsbee early to sail to Sandy Point. Our sleep had been interrupted the previous night by a thunderstorm. However, the weather had cleared by morning. We woke up to a beautiful sunrise. Then we set sail. We were joined on the boat by a film crew documenting our journey and conservation efforts. After breakfast, we had classes on water quality, intertidal zones, navigation, and humanities. Willy taught the student sailors about John Smith and his observation of a flourishing Chesapeake Bay in 1608. After lunch, we built boats and had an exciting competition to see who could build the most buoyant boat. Later that night, we had a campfire, s'mores, and a scary story about Taily Po.
